Our client’s aspiration was to create a luxurious powder room that created a dramatic ‘wow’ factor for their guests. They wanted a rich textural feel that referenced the natural palette of the beach and landscape beyond, all while harmonizing seamlessly with the aesthetic of the other rooms in their residence.
The first challenge lay in creating a space that exuded opulence while maintaining a sense of moodiness. The selection of materials played an integral part of the overall emphasis of the room and we were able to achieve the look with a monochromatic colour palette that contains mixture of raw and sleek textures. The decision to paint the ceiling dark echoes the surrounding depth of the wall surfaces and creates a dramatic and supremely sophisticated feel to the room.
The rugged texture of the herringbone wall tile is perfectly paired with the subtle wallpaper and a touch of natural marble stone adds a refreshing contrast to the dark tones, allowing the fluted basin to radiate on top.
It was decided early on in the planning stage of the design that lighting would be minimal, with a focus on highlighting key elements to achieve a dramatic effect that showcased the beautiful selection of materials. As a result, the space contains no ceiling light.
Strategic backlighting of the mirror was employed to accentuate the rugged texture of the distinctive herringbone tile, fulfilling both an aesthetic and functional role for our guests. The warmth of the backlit marble highlights its natural beauty and harmony. The overall design has resulted in a luxurious space that is not only functional but dramatic in its form and features.
