This kitchen exudes warmth and sophistication, making it an entertainer’s delight. The client’s vision was to create a functional statement design within a small inner-city apartment. With an open brief at our disposal, we had the creative freedom to play with colors, materials, and lighting.

One of our key challenges was to design a functional space that seamlessly connected with the adjacent dining and living areas of the compact apartment. To achieve this, we adopted a clean, minimalistic approach by integrating appliances into the back wall, eliminating visual distractions, and creating a sense of unity with the surrounding spaces.

Placing the sink on the back wall not only added functionality but also allowed us to create a spacious island, perfect for serving and entertaining, doubling as a bar area. To enhance the social aspect, we incorporated overhangs on three sides of the island, providing ample seating options.

We introduced subtle shifts in color through changes in texture and materials, extending the warmth of the flooring to the cabinetry while elevating the cabinetry’s height to create an illusion of space.
Boldly contrasting the warmth of the flooring, we used black materials strategically. The Caesarstone Black Tempal benchtop extended up to the splashback, drawing attention to the timber-dominated back wall. This bold black theme was carried through to the sink, tapware, and appliances.

The use of black timber battens added a contrasting texture against the black splashback and island cabinetry. With concealed fixings, the result was a seamless and sleek appearance. A steel shelf, attached with hidden fixings through the rangehood box, required support studs drilled into the stone splash back due to the weight of the steel. This shelf added another element to the mix of black materials and serves as practical use.

To enhance the overall aesthetic, we integrated creative lighting beneath and alongside the wall units, creating dimension within the black color scheme. This lighting was extended to the underside of the island, accentuating texture and infusing a moody ambiance into the kitchen’s overall look.
