These clients had a vision of creating an outdoor area with plenty of storage and bench space for barbequing and entertaining. This project involved collaboration with a landscape architect to create a cohesive outdoor environment.
The main challenges of this project revolved around material selection, considering the outdoor setting, and determining the optimal placement of the cooking area in harmony with the fireplace. All cabinets were constructed with plywood, while their fronts were made of Western Red Cedar with an oil finish, to give a rich natural look that could also be recoated as needed. Our aim was to ensure quick access to essential cooking utensils and BBQ gear, eliminating the need for constant trips to the indoor kitchen. To achieve this, a combination of drawers, cupboards, and a pull-out drawer for oils was integrated. Additionally, we proposed the inclusion of a drinks fridge, which has proven to be a resounding success.
We think this has created a fantastic outdoor space to cook in, share drinks and socialise with friends on the couch around a lovely open fire.
